The GramSabha At Pansena!

For all the talk of women empowerment, the gramsabhas still remain to be an elusive domain for the 'man', unless ofcourse there is some kind of reservation. Even in that case, its the man calling the shots behind the scenes, a.k.a Laloo/Rabri scenario. At this particular gramsabha ( one of the best, bout 300 men were present), one realized what a well established panchayati raj system can achieve. However, the concept of gramsabha and a social council still remains challenged in the hands of caste and gender 'power struggles'. They are seldom called, illiteracy, no compensation for the daily wages and a lack of interest deters the common man from becoming a part of this participatory process. Well, if the trend continues..God Save the Queen....ooops!!!
